Hi guys!

I'm fed up with my car now! When I start it sometimes, it cranks, but doesn't fire until I floor the throttle. Then it coughs and splutters, then unless i rev it over 3000rpm it stalls. If I rev it a few times, quite hard, then leave it to idle for a minute or so, it's fine to drive. other wise it just stalls again. and sequence is repeated.

I have drilled holes in the air box:whistle2:... this wouldn't make any difference would it!? Just that it smells hidiously rich when it does fire, even smoked earlier!:( It's fine to drive though.

I would be sooooo greatful if anyone could point me in a few directions on this one please!?

Thanks
Sam

Coolant temperature sensor or AFM?

Have you scanned it with Vagcom and seen if there are any fault codes?

Aha... i think i will get to the coolant temp sensor. That is the only fault that has come up on my Vagcom. I didnt think that would have any relevance though. :-s

I will sort that out asap and let you know if it sorts it. Any idea on where abouts it is situated on the v6?

Thanks alot!:sm4:

If the motor thinks its cold it adds extra fuel, which knocks the mixture out and it doesnt start.

Bit like trying to start an old carbed engine with the choke on.

Hah, takes me back. I remember changing the carb on my 1.1 escort, forgot to reconnect the choke...middle of winter at midnight in Scotland after sitting for 4 hours, that was fun trying to get it started! (aye back to front problem I know- any bosy miss carburetors?)

Glad you got it sorted. The guys on here really know their stuff :arco:

Thanks, they do!

Just a matter of interest... what is the mileage on teabag now?

243.4ish k Had a guy looking at it. He drove a standard 97 A4 1,9tdi. He seemed quite indifferant all round about that car but not entirely negative either, and, get this... the body work on his looked even worse!!! I think the bouncy break pedal will put him off. Said he wanted a 4wheel drive to get him to more inaccesable fishing spots....?! We'll see. 28 watchers now!
