Hey guys,

I just got back from getting my Evo DV installed on my car, and the mechanic told me that I should think about getting a new timing belt installed on my car. He said that when 1.8T reach 60,000 miles they are notorious for breaking because of a worn timing belt. Anyone else have this problem and should I take his advice right away?

thanks in advance

You can never do it too soon, anything over 60k and get it done, otherwise it's replacing 20valves, not cheap.
Make sure they change the water pump & the tensioner at the same time.
Water pumps are notorious for seizing up over 80k and this will shred your new timing belt. They're only £30.

Listen to Andymac cause you dont want to hear pistons crushing valves...

sounds horrible, thanks for the advice. How much should I expect a fair estimate to cost for changing the timing belt, tensioners, and water pump?
