Hi all heard this on the radio this morning
here is a link to sign the petition http://www.r2rc.co.uk/home/content/view/27/97/

Currently, you have the right to service and repair your vehicle wherever you wish.

But, in 2010, that right could be removed. If you don’t want to see the competitive service and repair environment disappear, please register your support by signing our online petition.

lets support the independant garages!

I'm not really sure i get what they're on about...

They cant surely be saying i suddenly wont be allowed to take my car to a independant garage for servicing work surely?

The only thing i can think of is the legislation that currently means if you take your NEW warrantied car to an independant, then the warranty cant be made void by the dealership for not using them?

That site is IMO VERY misleading in the "public" section. It seems to make out that no-one at all will be able to have their vehicle maintained by anyone other than the main dealer, which is simply not the case...

you can buy warranties on pretty much anything now anyway.
thats how all the poxy rovers out there can still be repaired under warranty even though they went under.

take the first £500 saved from not going to the dealer and buy and independant warranty.

boycott the dealers!!

If you can't get hold of the codes you're scuppered. Watch the extended version, it quite simple to understand.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick, you can't put two finger up to the dealers if there's no one else left.

Sign the petition and tell all your mates.

Having watched the video i can see the reason behind the campaign, but i also suspect that its not as big a deal as it would at first seem. There is so much money in the aftermarket that firms will just reverse engineer the systems if the manufacturer wont provide the data, look at vagcom as an example of this.

It would also seem that the general position of MP's is supportive of the campaign, so i guess i will just take some time for them to knock up some alternative legislation.
