Hi All
I've recently bought An 1997 A4SE, is nice low miles and good condition but the front suspension creaks and moans like anything. I have had bushses replaced and am today having the shock replaced. is this a common problem? If so i'll get rid and buy an older coupe again. Also is there any other problems i might encounter?
Thanks

Audis are well known for control arm issues - a nuisance but nothing to get all worked up about.

I'm from the States; which engine is the SE?

There really isn't anything to look out for that you wouldn't on any other car - unless the SE is a turbo. If it's the turbo, then you'll need to check the DV and the turbo system itself. Has it been modded at all?

Its just a 1.8 not turbo. A nice all round car but has cost a amall fortune so far and have still not entirely eliminated it....but i suppose it will be an almost new front end when its done

Unfortunately, that's more common than not mate.
But you're right, you'll have a new front end when you're done.
I assume it's FWD not Quattro. How many miles?

By the way: The fuel filter may need to be checked.

it is FWD yes, with only 75000 so i am expecting a cambelt soon too...lol. Ah well you pay your money and make your choice right?
will check on the filter thanks

Oh... with 75K, you definitely need to do the timing belt - soon. Do the fuel filter and belt together. Costly, but you'll feel an immediate difference after the service.

surprised if it is the turbo at that age, bushes, then control arms at the top then the lower arms. That is in the order of the most expensive...

take it to a good audi specialist and they will diagnose pretty quick...

cheers
