so , bought some new bits over the last few days, some are now on, some are still yet to arrive but here's how it looks at the moment - i have painted the grill surround and badge black, and ive also ordered a honeycomb RS4 grill to replace the current one, also put it on some 18x8.5 genuine RS4's and got some plate holders:

this is how it was when i picked it up a month ago:

then i painted the grill:

then did the wheels and stuff:

it has also been lowered on new springs but not much as i only wanted it to be a bit stiffer and not be too low for everyday use on crappy roads, but that may change soon!

there is only really one or two (three to be exact) problems and thats the tyres widths - 3 of them are 255/35/18's and stick out like this:

download1.jpg

and this is a bit of a problem especially at the front, what i really want is a set of 225/35/18's so they will all sit nicely like this one wheel:

but all in all im pretty pleased with how it is coming, im trying to go for a complete OEM, sleek look, and done on the cheap!!

all comments welcome!

Cheers!

:D

its the offset of the wheels thats the problem.

If those wheels are truly genuine RS4 items, they'll be ET20.

Too extreme for the slim-hipped, slim-shouldered B5.

Yeah, you'll need to swap them out for some reps.

Still, it's a big improvement on when you picked it up. Keep up the good work!

yeha, they are genuines and are et20, i was going to put some smaller tyres on with a bit of stretch, as they would fit a bit better bit on the drive to work today even the stretched tyre was rubbing a bit so unfortunately they are coming off again, any body want to buy a set of recently refurbed genuine RS4's with godo tyres? lol.

Tyres are not going to work, the olny car that will make them work is an RS4 so you are going to have to sell them myman.

RS4 rims will fit A4 arches with some effort
I run ET24 B7 RS4 rims 8.5x18 (only 4mm in it compared to you)
arch rims are rolled with 245/35/18 F1

tyre choice will help, I choose poorly. IMO 255/35 is too wide for a 8.5" rim as it is significantly wider than the rim itself.
255mm is 10", that is a 1.5" overhang on a 8.5" rim, even taking into account the actual width of the rim that is still a good 3/4"+ that your tread is wider than the wheel outer edges.
235 would be perfect on my set up as it would give a slightly tapering sidewall that would match the arch profile and I am pretty sure would clear the arch on heavy compression of the struts.

with my current tyres (245's)
front clear without issue.
Rears are about 5mm outboard of arch rim. having them flared shortly but it only ever rubs with 5 people in the car over speed bumps! and it rubs right on the line where the tread joins the side wall.
pays to have teeth shettering suspension after all!!

cheers jcb, mine are rolling on 255/35's and they are far too wide, one is running on 225/35 and seems to about perfect, so im tossing up whether or not i should buy new tyres and sell the other ones as they are nearly new, or just sell the wheels and buy something else with the money that will fit!

I had to fit Rs4 offset to clear my brakes.
I like the wheels I have on but would love some black ten spokes.

The wider stance suits the car and makes it look much more aggressive. but there is a cost. I suspect that even with 225's your rears with fixed wheels will still rub if you load it. mine have no lip inside the rear arches which takes out about 6mm of metal, added to about 3-4mm of slight flaring and it makes a big difference.

if you can be bothered with the extra effort (and potentially cost) I would always take OEM wheels over reps.
and you can claim to have joined the "widetrack club"!

yeah, thats the reason i really wanted them, i probably wouldn't get the rep ones if i'm going to put wheels on, i want the wider genuine ones, otherwise i would feel like i was cheating the OEM look, and wouldn't have the stance i want, having said that, money is running out, and so is spirit when i've spent all that money and i can't really drive it at the moment...

Do you have any side pics of your car jcb? Would like to see an A4 on genuine RS4's.

Very smart indeed. I'm looking to go down the same sort of route as you- "optimised" OEM rather than a balls-out modifying trip. Albeit my colour is somewhat less distinctive than yours!

Nice one mate. And perservere with the wheels, they look good.

I had to sell the wheels in the end, but i did manage to get back what i paid for them so i was happy with that, im now looking at getting another set, but all plans have been on hold for while, but looks like they are on again now.

she's sounding like a heavy tractor at the moment becuase she's in desperate need of an oil change, but hopefully getting that done this weekend, got all teh bits, just need the time and my parents driveway!

also spoke to a chap about having something done on my roof with some vinyl soon, might just get it done in black, but at the same time some kind of black design might be pretty cool!

I have done a couple of little things over the last few days/weeks, nothing special though, just changed my plates over to my old personal one that i thought i lost when i sold my corrado, also fitted a new honeycomb grill and had some black pressed plates in the shes so i put them on to see what they would look like!

now on the hunt for some cheap 18's to spray black/gunmetal and to maybe smoke the headlights. also got an idea for the roof, but nothing set in stone yet!

just a quick update, picked up some new wheels last night, not what i really wanted, but i needed new tyres anyway and got a set of 18" rs8 reps with new rubber all round for the bargain price of £220, probably going to paint them as there is a bit of lacquer peal going on, not sure about the colour yet, probably black, but might go a little bit more "out there" when i get to it. any big jobs i wanted to do like remapping and DV are all on hold now as i am supposed to be buying a new flat soon, but as soon as i move in i'll be back in the game!

i'll put some pics up asap, needs a ruddy good clean first though!

Urgh! Don't smoke the lights! I think that went out with mk2 escorts (which are still in in kind of retro way I guess), just my personal opinion of course. There are some nice upgrade rear lamps that will look way better, but I suppose you're going for the yellow / black look? Cool! A 150bhp bumble bee!!!

The body work looks great for it's age. I don't think I've got a panel that doesn't have any rust....oh yeah, apart from the bumbers ;O)

changed my mind on the smoking thing, i was going to just smoke the reverse bit of the rear lights, but i have since changed my mind and am just going to get some facelift ones a bit later down the line!

the body is godo rust wise, but it's had a shunt and been repaired on the cheap by the looks of it, kind of looks like parts of the front bumper have been painted with a brush - probably going to respray them, again, later on in the year if i decide to keep it a bit longer!

still want to change it for an imola s4 avant next year though!

thanks for the feedback though!

I would never get away with those plates around here. They get arsey on the pressed steel ones with D on them, let alone solid black

Otherwise, get pics up when she sat on the R8's, will look good

yeah the plates are just for show, they used to be the proper colours, but then got pulled in them a few times in my bora so to stop any temptation, i sprayed them so i knew i wouldn't use them on the road!

hopefully get some pics up either tonight or tomorrow!

i was going to do that to my old bora, seen a few and it looked awesome, might do it if i can find a cheap set of headlights on the bay or something!

ive got some really light smoke film that i might put on just to see what they are like, but might not...

not the best pics as i took them in my iPhone last night, but you get the idea!

the new wheels are in need of a ruddy good scrubbing and i still think i want to paint them a different colour to separate them from the rest!

taking off the boot badge at some point, maybe this weekend, but off to Norfolk for the bank holiday so not sure if i will have time.

car needs to be lower though, that 40mm drop just doesn't look enough to me.

not much to add to this at the moment, i now have a thule roof basket for the roof rack as im going camping quite a bit this summer, and i actually like the look of it on the car haha.

i finally put a black badge on the boot to match the black grill and rings so now it's all black and yellow, probably going to paint the wheels too as they are in pretty shoddy nick, but they were cheap with good tyres so can't really complain!

also got this little decal in the post from America on Saturday morning:

do you live in hawaii?

Yellow and black like that makes me reach into the bucket of Bee puns.

Do you drive hard, or sort of bumble down the road? Do you listen to a lot of Sting while driving?

Thinking about a smart yellow A4 like that made me come over a little hornet......

(looks great btw)
