Help me QUICK please! 10W-40 OK???

Need some oil ASAP and all I have is Castrol GTX 10W-40.

Is this OK???

have a look on the back of the container if it conforms to vw 500.00 or 501.01 viscosity it will be ok

i wouldnt run that, as its only a semi synthetic oil.

I use 5w40 Fully synth, and my local factors does it for about £15 a gallon.

Although i should add theres nothing wrong with it, Audis spec for the engine is 10w40 semi-synth, its just i'd prefer to run it on a higher quality oil.

On mine there is a little sticker just by the bonnet catch release saying what oil the car takes. I never noticed this until the other day, so it might say on yours what it can take

Thanks guys. I put a few litres of 10W-40 in it for now but may treat it to a flush and oil change with some nicer oil in the near future.

aye, as i say, if its the case of no oil, or topping it up with 10w40 then its fine, and similarly, i'd rather have 10w40 in there changed every 5k than running audi spec "longlife" oil for 20k, but for a turbo engine you should really be looking at fully synth oil, and that usually comes in 5w40.
