Hi all :)

Just went to a specialist dealer not too far from me and they quoted approx £350 for Cambelt, tensioners, water pump etc .

Are these prices normal for independent specialists or over the top? The garage said labour would be in the range of £180-£200 (out of the £350)

An absolute bargain so long as the parts list isn't skimped on (no point given the labour to parts ration) and you can trust them to get the timing right etc.

Add any parts that fall short of the recommended cambelt kit for an S5 and bite their hand off!

That sounds too cheap to me. Isnt the water pump alone 50 quid? Plus the belts and tensioners kit which is 200 or so? I may be wrong on the belts/tensioners cost though.

It's approx 5 hours labour, so work out the labour cost based on that.

200quid for 5 hours work seems fair to me?

The £150 for the rest of the parts does seem a bit tight:

I'd imagine about 25-35 quid for the waterpump, a quick check online shows the timing belt kit is around £165+vat:

Perhaps it will be a little less with trade discount but a lot of these online places are selling at near enough trade prices anyway.

As long as the belt AND tensioners are done, along with the waterpump you should be fine. As has been said, get the thermostat changed while your in there, and it might be an idea to do the serpentine belt and its tensioner too while its off.

worth doing the auxiliary belt and a few of the others too - they are super cheap

They parts they will change as fews:

1) Timing Belt
2) Water Pump with Gasket
3) Serpentine Belt
4) Idler roller
5) Tensioner roller
6) Thermostat with O-Ring

All this for £350 :yahoo: will book this for next week and the garage is very good as my brother in law changed his A4 1.9 TDI timing belt there and he is very happy with their job and he paid £180 :uhm:

That's an excellent price, took me a whole day to do this, Audi would charge near a grand for that! Agree the price for definate before they do the work. Bargain!
