i all i have been offered a full front brake setup from a b6 1.9tdi thats calipers carriers and discs and pads am i right in thinking the b6 discs are 312mm are they just a straight swop and also do you think they will be an improvement on my standard setup my car is a 2001 1.9 tdi any info would be very helpful

only the higher power B6 models had 312mm disks (like the 3.0 and high end 1.8T's), the rest had 288's just like your B5.

The B6 calipers also wont fit the B5, hence people use the TT carriers and B6 312mm disks for the 312mm upgrade.

Well i dont drive the car, and dawn doesnt notice that much of a difference, however i suspect they will perform a little better, as the larger surface area means the disk has more ability to withstand heat buildup and therefore they will perform longer before fading. She just never pushes it hard enough to notice really.

All TT's are 312mm. You use your original B5 calipers and pads with the TT carriers and B6 disks.
