my car has started blipping the throttle by itself.
was getting a box out of the boot yesterday and it revved to about 2000+ then settled down again.
Swear it did it on purpose just as I bent over the exhaust!

what needs a clean? MAF, Throttle Body? |Vac leak somehwere?

its a DBC late 99 1.8t

Thats an odd one!

If the car had an electronic TB then you could point the finger there but it doesnt.

The Idle control valve could rev the engine like that, but it would need a reason to do so. Either the engine is running a bit rough and its struggling to maintain idle speed, hence using the valve to blip the throttle, or the valve itself is sticking.

Any fault codes?

try doing a throttle body alignment:

If you flip the ignition on and leave the car along for 2-3minutes you should hear the TB whirring and clicking. Once it stops, see if that improves anything.
