Where'd ye live? There a few specialist up by Glasgow: RMS, Mongoose and another one I can't remember, they do custom pipes. Price is dependant on vehicle, my point is, try source something similar down there, you may find cheaper than a pre-fab unit.

Any decent fabricator can build you one.

As long as you give them a CAT to work with.

why not just use a gutted cat?

mine had one on it, and there was a definite loss of power when i fitted a new real cat to it...

Your clearly not wanting to spend lots on the car, so just gut the cat and save yourself the Ł100

I paid Ł80 for a de-cat pipe for my car before the Audi....a Mitsubishi Legnum. The place who did is was just a car garage that had means of fabricating stainless exhausts. this is in York, so maybe not local to you. But just an idea.

A gutted cat will have pretty much the same the effect at a minimal cost to you. nothing thats not worth trying.

I'm having a front pipe in stainless steel fitted tomorrow to match the rest and having cat put back on so will probably be selling my decat.
Need to make my exhaust quieter and told to put cat back on as it would help.
Will let you know if i'm selling it.

Problem with gutted cats is, they sound very hollow - I'm sure Alpine can remember how mine sounded, the previous owner had gutted the driver's side CAT, probably due to failure / blockage.

As a V6, it sounded awful, I would imagine an I4 would be less forgiving.

    Worth thinking about.

Well mine has a standard exhaust so i didn't notice any difference tbh, but ye, with an aftermarket system you might find it sounds ****e.

Costs nothing but some time to try it though, so its worth giving it a go.

You tried unbolting it and running it yet to make sure it is the cat at fault?.. before you put too much effort into it.

Well, my exhaust is standard, but still had that nasty, resonating rasp, and the hollow boom was unpleasant.

Nah ours didn't have any rasp or boom, just sounded normal tbh, but yer i know what you mean, pehaps the addition of the turbo helps? as i know its quite common for S4 people to gut the cats in their downpipes with no nasty noises?

I was convinced the cat had just died as it was old, and it wasnt until i took it off i realised!

It had been MOT'd at the same place for the last three years too before i baught it, and theres no way that cat had been off for any of them, as the cat to downpipe bolts were rusted away.

I would suggest not doing a de-cat anywhere near RSPCA or Blue Cross premises

If it's running lean you'll need to find out why and correct/repair it..

Could be your MAF, Lambda, Vac leak or even your fuel filter. There could be other causes but one of them is most likely IMO.

Hopefully it's just your cat anyway mate.

The THS is a good bit of kit but the stud nearist the block can be a twat to tighten up ive fitted loads of these now for my customers and i have to heat the tube near the flange to make the stud from the turbo clear

im not looking forward to fitting this as i know the 3 bolts turbo side are a twat to tighten/undo and as for Cat side not going to be easy on axel stands

lets hope it solves me problem! Nice Car by the way billybravo, i done a simalar thing to my RS turbo, was a beast car!

When i did my cat last month i found the turbo bolts pretty easy, the only tricky one is the one nearest the block and i got that from underneath with a few extensions joined together and a UJ on the end.

The Cat to DP bolts however were a COMPLETE arse, all rounded off and crusty, and a total nightmare to get to. Luckily for me, i was replacing the downpipe too. So i just jammed the grinder thru the DP and pulled the cat and DP stub out the top.
