Giving avant roof rail the alloy look

Managed to get hold off some spare roof rail for my Avant has anyone sanded them down or sprayed the standard black roof rail for the alloy look?
Just wondering wether to sand or spay as I've gotten hold off Audi alloy spray paint? Cheers for any advise?
