starting problem

hello i have a 1997 2.8 (ack) a4 quattro, sometimes it starts on the turn of the key, but most the time it will turn over and over. there is no faults in the system, if i turn the key off and back on again (dont remove it) it will fire up, and the last week it has started every now and again to judder and lose power gain power lose power gain power for about 5 secs

any ideas?

I had simlar problem and it came back as a ecu fault!!!!!!!!!!!!
