    Exclamation Heated door mirror

My nearside door mirror does not heat up, the adjuster still moves the glass so there is still electric getting to it but its not heating up.

    Any ideas anyone?

Need a new glass. The early ones were heated all of the time, then they added a little temp sender thing to the glass to only make them come on below 5 degrees on the later cars.
Mine is the same, as long as the car is running the mirrors are on !! I may have a spare coming up if that helps you matey !! I am putting auto dim ones on mine

PM me your address and i will post it to you mate for cost of post,The auto dim ones darken when a dazzling light shines from behind. It connects to the rear view mirror and uses the sensor on there to detect the light etc

Yep, and what a pain in the butt the later mirrors are......
My '94 Audi 80 had 2 burnt-out mirrors when I purchased the car in 2000 so I replaced them with new glasses and they were still working perfectly 5 years later when it was sold to make way for the A4........but at least in the 80 I always had crystal-clear side mirrors!
My '99 pre-facelift has mirrors which only heat up when the ambient temperature is below 5 degrees, so for most of the awful summer we have had I've had wet and partially obscured side mirrors?
    So much for progress..................!!!

So is it a tricky job to get the mirror glass out? Doesn't look like much room for manouver...

The mirrors are dead easy to swap, I just use a stout blunt knife wrapped in a soft clean rag (so as not to damage the paint on the mirror housing) and lever the old glass out...
Its one of those jobs that you feel you'll break the mirror by attempting it , but if you just carefully and firmly pull on the glass it will come out intact, it did with me anyway.....
Once you have wired up the new glass (just 2 spade connectors) the mirrors are just a push-fit back into the adjuster mechanism within the mirror housing; this can be a tad fiddly to do but if you press on the glass squarely and evenly it should click into place quite nicely...........
