    Burning oil smell

I know it is a bit of a long shot but I have recently bought a A4 2.8 quattro and after a long run tha engine bay smells of burning oil. It is definatly from a leak somewhere high enough to drip the oil onto the exhaust. I have fitted 2 new cam cover gaskets and the cam seal where done 3K ago. Has anyone experienced this? or is there an Audi fitter that uses the forum in the Derby area that may want to have a look for me. I guess the next stage is the take the underpan off and wash the engine, but don't fancy that much from underneath.

    Any advice is welcome.

    Re: Burning oil smell

    Hi stebed
this is a notoriously oily engine, the first thing i would check mate is the breather pipe which runs from one head to the other.take off the engine cover and you will see it.its plastic and ribbed,it gets very brittle after time and it will probably be split somewhere.costs around 60 quid for new one
let me know how u go on.
