rattle noise

Hi All,

I have a S Reg S4/B5, 127K. I have had the car for about 4 months and have started to notice a rattle noise coming from around by the CATS. I seem to remember reading about that it could be a lining inside the downpipes that could be shattered?

I have checked the heat shields when i replaced the EGT sensors.

any suggestions welcome.

It's the lining in the exhaust manifolds which can come away. That can be catastrophic if bits of manifold get chewed up by a turbo.

Before you start to panic though, check to make sure you don't have a loose EGT or Lambda. Saw this recently on an RS4 which had a mystery rattle coming from the downpipes.
