235-35-19 to 225-40-19

I have been trrying to get some replacement tyres in 235-35-19 but they are like hen's teeth to get at a decent price, guy at the tyre place said try 225's as they will fit no problem and are cheaper, I have sourced a set of 225-40's at a nice price but am wondering if anyone can think of a reason there will be a problem? cheers

If your 19s are like mine, fitting them in the arches is a bit tight. With a 225/40 you will be losing a little in the width, but gaining in height cos of the bigger profile. Why not a 225/35? A little bit skinnier, but the same profile, also seem a bit more of a common size, in case you pop one and need to replace.

I have a set of MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 2 225/40's for £120 so going to give them a go
wonder if the stretch will ofset the height?

why would you lose width? they are both 225mm wide.
the 35 and 40 profile is not a measurement its a percentage of the width.
35% of 235 = 82.25mm wall height
40% of 225 = 94 mm wall height

that is close to 12mm top and bottom on the wheel height, do you have 12mm's worth of space between the current tyre and bearing carrier upright? I know I don't.
probably explains why they are less common or not popular.

Just done a quick search and am now glad I opted for 18's. £172 a piece for Toyos

Yes your gearing will be well screwed deviating from the stock rolling radius by that much. That's 5% and the maximum recommended is 2.5. Even your old tyres were only just inside the 2.5%.
