Hi All,

I was hoping to get REVO put onto my 1999 S4 B5. its on 125K and i have been advised by the REVO dealer not to do it as i will have loads of problems such as burst pipes and leaks etc. I can understand about old pipes and the possibility of splitting and leaking (but they can be replaced)
Is this a reality? anyone here with an old, high mileage S4 who can advise?

thanks
Rob

Can't see why it would be any different to re mapping any high miler.

I had my old 1.8T re mapped at about 125,00 miles and ragged the **** out of it for the next 15,000 and not one thing went wrong with it.

My S4 has about the same miles on as yours and i'm planning to do the same with that.

My S4 has 128k on it, been running a supership for a year now. Had the usual common probs, some before remap, some after. Couple of split hoses, torn TBB, knackered lambdas and egts. I can't remember the exact times of these things, but any S4 could have the same issues, regardless of age and mileage I'd say, these things could go wrong at any time. Obvioulsy running more boost etc could shorten the time span till they go, but the extra 40 odd horses and the ton of extra torque outweighs these few little hassles IMO. Like any car, no telling when s@#t can go wrong. Do it, do it now! You'll never look back! Release the beast within!

mmm...i was thinking the same. if hoses split or leak then i can just get new ones! I had REVO stage 2 on my 18T AUM Golf and that was amazing. 265BHP but too much for fwd car - fun though!

The dealer seemed to imply that he wouldnt do it as i would be going back to them with split hoses and stuff....surley this isnt REVO's problem and shouldnt stop him from setting me up?

My EGTs are already gone, bought them and fitting them tomorrow. As for Lamdas i plan on getting the stage 2 software - which if its like the golf, disables the O2 Sensors!

how would i go about using VAG to check for leaks? or have i got the wrongend of the stick? if so how and where would i check for leaks?

would that be a fault or a measureing block to watch?

The way a garage would pressure test your system is basically by removing the MAF at the accordian hose, they then fit basically a big bung with an attachement for an air line off a compressor and a pressure guage, then fill the system with air from the compressor which pressurises all the boost pipes, intercoolers etc. then lock off the system and see if the pressure stays constant, ie no air leaking from any split hoses, end tanks, you also should be able to hear where it's leaking from too.

Maybe a trip to MRC tuning for a health check? for about £50 they'll do all these things for you, point out anything worth dealing with, give you plenty of advice.

block 032 in the engine module, 2nd and 4th bank will show % values - I have been told anything over 8 = running rich and boost leak

Rather than wait for your hoses to split, you'd be better off replacing all of the usual suspects before getting a remap done.

Chris from MRC Tuning has over 200k miles on his remapped S4. Still going strong!

Where are you based?

My 1.8T (AEB) has done just over 100000 and I've been over the engine replacing any hoses with signs of wear, all boost hoses, sensors, seals etc.. I've fitted an upgraded turbo (scroll products), in the process of fitting FMIC and then onto a custom map for about 220bhp.

+70 bhp over standard and can't ****** wait!!

Fair play to the REVO dealer for being cautious, but if they can't advise on what to check or change, they don't know enough about your car to be mapping it, so again good on them for not.

Get it to a a specialist with some knowledge of the B5 S4 however for a check though as there are plenty of cars with those miles safely running maps.

For mapping an S4, the recommendations don't come much higher than MRC Tuning. I have about 335BHP and only run about 1.1 bar boost (stock is 0.8 I believe).

More than likely you'll be renewing the DVs, the MAF and a a healthy TBB and F-hose would be a good plan.

Invest in a boost leak tester, and train your ears to listen out for probs. Also a boost gauge is wise. The boost leak testers come up on fleabay every now and then, or ask members who are local if ya can borrow one.
I sold all my stuff with my S4 when she went, and by christ I dont half miss the noise the V6 bi-t made!!!!!

I had a REVO Remap...then had it removed and refunded after a few days of 'I'm not happy with this'. The power increase and delivery was very poor and it sounded 'not right!'. Check my posts for full details. It was not as expected.

I then went to MRC and Doug remapped my S4 and the difference was noticeable immediately and it is amazing. He tested for boost leaks and replaced a faulty lambda sensor befor the remap. I would wholeheartedly recommend MRC to do your remap, it was a totally different experience.
