mounting points

i want to put a harness in place of the drivers seat belt. just thinking where to mount the side ones?

the rear i can go to the rear seat belt point, but the ones either side of the seat i dont know where to bolt them too

any ideas?

hi,there are two ways,firstly back in my mk1 escort days i had harnesses the first was bolted to the floor which meant two holes for the side drilled into the floor with a brace plate welded to the back with heavy duty eye bolts for the harness.

Second was a full rollcaged car with a seat brace which these were strapped to.It is a little difficult without too much modding/cutting and welding to easily do it safely.

When you say the rear one..meaning you are planning on 3 point harness?Go for a 4 point 3 inch item minimum,not a 3 point.

i have a corsa track car, and have welded plates in etc on that, the std seat belt is rubbish on the b5 i think the seats were designed for a fat man, hence wanting harneses,

but i dont fanct welding plates into it..

cant you use the standard mounting points for the seatbelt?

ive not looked that closely but there is usually a decent point at either side where the belt clip / fixed end of the belt attaches to the floor?

there is a few place you can get them on

the hardist part of the job is finding a good place on the tunnel as the old seat belt clasp was mounted to the old seats.

i had to drill into the tunnel and use a 5mm steel plate on the inside of the tunnel and bolted a round mount huck there.


the pic dosnt show the mountings but it will give you an idea

well if you still have the stock seats then use the seatbelt anchorage on the seat and the inertia reel or belt anchorage on the sill

If you've ditched the stock seats my only suggestion without welding would be to drill a hole in the gearbox tunnel or floor and use large spreader plates either side along with the bolt.

seat belt anchorage sounds like best bet, ill look into it wednesday when im off
