dodgy fuel needle

Does anyone have any problems with there fuel needle? I can top my car right up, get on the dual carriage way and it starts to go down...but, as soon as I come off and join single roads it goes back up again!!! Its doing my swede in! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

it does my head in too. if i only put £5 in (poor student!!) and go on the motorway with £5 fuel + reserve fuel then the petrol gauge goes right down and petrol light comes on. really annoying when you consider the intensity of the petrol light at night!!!!

It's your fuel sensor. Same thing happened to my 99.5 1.8. I took it to my local dealer and they fixed it for me for kind of a high price ($400) i probably should have taken it to a independent place, but oh well its fixed now and hasn't jumped down to empty anymore.
