I have found a solution to my exhaust to DP alignment issues in the form of stainless steel flex exhaust pipe and some stainless flex pipe clamps. I can insert a short section of flex pipe which will give me enough 'flex' to align the exhaust and DP. I'll use the flex clamps to achieve a nice positive/airtight clamped join..

It's 2.5" mate. The pipe was 16.94 for 350mm and the clamps were 7.28 each.

Yep think I've got everything now to get it bolted up and running.. need a few Audi nuts and bolts which I'll list and order this weekend so yeah should be good for March

Nice work. How are you going to stop the air filter sucking in hot air from the turbo/engine?

I've been toying with the idea of some kind of heat shield but to be honest unless I box the filter in completely I don't think it will have any positive effect on intake temps.

I may go down the route of turbo wrap/insulation but for now I will use the OEM cold air feed that went to the air box and feed another new CAI from the bumper area.

When I'm moving I'd imagine that the flow of air should be sufficient to keep things cool but this is something that I'll need to monitor.

it wont matter, unless your drag racing and sat in long queues where the intercooler can heatsoak.

When moving, the air round the filter will be as good as ambient temp anyway.

When I'm queuing to race I'll be pushing the car without the engine running where possible.. I seem to recall two fellow members trying to employ me to do the same thing for them in the queue at GTI Inters last year lol.

Fairly sure I could knock one of them up in a few mins if need be lol. My turbo sits in a different position to the normal KKK or hybrid so it'd need to be a bespoke item anyway.

Does anybody know the outside diameter of the metal crank breather pipe (PCV connection)? I think it's around 15 - 20mm but not I'm not certain.

The Garrett is being fitted 13th - 14th March!

From what I can see they are used on various V6 engines. The engines seem to put out around the 200 - 215 HP mark so I'd imagine the injectors wont flow a great amount. 215HP/6CYL = 35.8333HP per cylinder. Not sure what fuel pressure they're running to produce that figure though mind.

they're around 200cc/min, so not much use for a turbocharged 4.

After a bit of last minute investigation it has been decided that the intended Garrett may not be up to the job where boost is concerned so as I have a fetish for turbos I thought I'd add another to my collection..

A GT2560R will be more than capable of producing 290HP so that's what I'll be fitting now instead.

    Link to Garrett spec.. http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...R_466541_4.htm

Need to fabricate a new DP and get a few more silicone intake pipes etc and then it'll be good to go.

A t28 should be able to do 290bhp all day long i would have thought. Thats about the power they make in pulsars at 1bar no problem.

    Bit of an update.

I have had to make a spacer plate as there wasn't enough clearance for the new turbo to bolt flush to the exhaust manifold without the turbo housing touching..

This little lot all need welding together to make a downpipe to fit the Garrett 5 bolt turbo flange..

I am waiting for an adapter to allow me to use the oil feed that I already have but it's an odd 7/16 x 24 TPI for the turbo and then an M14 to fit the oil feed..

A few studs and some increased diameter silicone hoses and I think it'll ready to bolt on!

You should be able to rotate the compressor side of the turbo so it will clear the manifold.

Yeah, I will gain some clearance but I need it to sit in a certain position; I'll probably get away with halving the thickness of the spacer in the photo though

I need to rotate the centre section too so that the oil drain is facing downwards so that gravity can do it's thing.

im using a t28 on mine in a 90quattro and it fit fine when i rotated the coldside, cant wait to see your results as yours will no doubt be done before mine lol are you running the standard garrett wastegate? easiest thing i found to do was have a boss welded onto the coldside of the turbo and cut the wastgate arm and using a threaded insert in the middle so it can be adjusted quite easy too and it also was to short. any thoughts on using pulsar gtir injectors? been told there 440 and the right impedance for our ecu's... and i got some for a 10a lol

I can't really rotate it more than a couple of mm as I'm sticking with the OEM Garrett actuator and obviously the actuator arm needs to stay aligned on both sides.

I managed to spend an hour on it last night and rotated the core so that the oil drain is now facing downwards. With a slight twist (2-3mm) and filing 5mm from the coldside I have gained enough clearance to get the manifold and turbo to bolt up flush when using an upgraded/thicker metal gasket between the two

I'm using Bosch red top injectors as I'm aiming for no more than 290 - 300BHP (I don't want to start bending engine internals). The red tops should be about bang on for fuelling.

I'll be interested to see how you get on with the GTIR injectors though mate.
