Grinding noise when changing down gear

Hi all,
I'm a newbie..And i'm sorry to say that my first post on here it to ask for help.
I got a '97 2.8 Quattro, and if i lift the clutch pedal a little quickly when changing down there is a very quick but audible grinding noise.
It's fine if the clutch is lifted gently.

Spoke to a m8 who though that it could be the clutch bearing.
But thought i would ask folk who have these cars also.

Rear diff mount i recon, thay can cause the diff to momenterily touch the body under hard acceleration and downshifting IIRC
