I cant tell if its retro fitted plastic mesh with a DIY chrome surround or a part you can buy off the shelf, a few of the US A4's seem to have them but this is by far the best pic. Its the part that replaces the centre plastic slatted piece for a more up to date B6 style plastic mesh in the bumper with chrome surround. If anyone knows where to get them I would love to know as it looks great with an S4 grill

Either custom made, or from selected specialist outlets.

I'd post it on Audizine, it's mostly an American site.

I am really starting to think its custom made :(

Ill post on Audizine cheers mate :)

I just cancelled my order for a plain slatted grill as I want to get the above done, I rang Audi for a price on an S4 front grill and he said there are two, an earlier one and a later one, looking at pics, is the later one the mesh as above (RS4) and the busy slatted one the early (S4) or is that totally wrong.

Also, anywhere I can buy a genuine grill cheaper than Audi?

Thanks

The grille pic is of an RS4 grille, an S4 grille the slats are still horizontal kinda similar to the OE one

Yeah thought so, looks good with the lower bit done, really hoping the lower bit can be bought off the shelf

Thanks for the link, much cheaper than Audi so save a few pennies there. Just hoping to find the lower part now, if it exists

Gutted, thats that one down the pan then!

Thanks for the detective work! I might look into a new front bumper instead, the one with the plastic mesh, is it an RS4 item, I dont want to widen my arches so I assume it cant be done without widening them

You can buy the RS4 plastic grill's on vagparts, I very much doubt it, but are they are replacement for the plastic slats in the standard bumper does anyone know?

Cheers

i have an s4 grill and it would be no good to use for the bumper as it has audi rings in centre. Also between the rings it has horizontal bars so not able to de-badge it

What you do is buy the lower centre grill for the bumper and cut it up the other way is with RS4 style metal mesh like I have lying around.

Ok guys thanks for all the input,I think I will stop trying to get things done on the cheap, I thought it might be an off the shelf replacement part but its not so the plastic slates can stay and I will look into a Votex/MSDesign kit I think.

Thanks again

this is the next mod i was going to do to my car after i move house in a couple of weeks, when i get the time

i had a stone fly up and break one of the slats on my grill so swapping it for an rs4 one, then im going to cut up the spare lower grill ive got like above and put in some rs4 style mesh again as above, but its already black (bought it that way).

i ve also got a spare set of thr grills that are round the fog lamps , so im going to also chop them and put the rs4 mesh in them as well,

ill post photo when ive done it ( ill photo it as i make them so you can see how i did it, it maybe some help to someone)

the chrome surround on the one above looks very similar to the chrome strips you can get to put round screens on mototbikes it flexible and can be bent to almost any shape

How easy would it be to replace my lower S4 mesh with the RS4 style mesh?
Would look so much better.

thats the one, thats the guide i was using to give me an idea of how to do it,except ill still have my fog lights in place

Cool, keep us posted on how you get on, I am putting my plans on hold for now as I have no idea what direction I want to go with the car now, I really want an MS Design kit and a set of 18's and an RS4 front grill and just leave everything else but the kit is to expensive, I doubt I will DIY mine as I am not to good at that kind of thing.

I was thinking about a combination of used S4 sides, MS Designs front lip and painted rear standard apron, should work out pretty cheap but not sure if it would look cheap too, what you guys think? I think the S4 and RS4 just had a painted rear bumper lower apron as standard anyway?!

A mate has got me some mesh that is s'posed to be just like the honeycombe shapes in my RS4 Bonnet Grill, so am going to try this when I come back from me hols! (if it is a close match as he says!)
