Oil Light!!!

Hi All

Just over the past few days, when I have been driving, my oil light has been coming on and after a while my car engine sounds VERY "tappetty".

However, if i pull over and let the car cool down and when i check the oil, it shows that it is just over the max line, which is ok (i presume), so can someone please explain why my car engine seems to be deprived of oil???

Also when i start the car up from letting it cool down, it sounds fine again.

Could it be a blockage somewhere that is starving the oil to the engine??

Any ideas???

for lack of other information, I'll assume that your car has done around the 100k miles mark.

In which case, either the oil strainer needs the sludge cleaning out, or mechanical oil pump need replacing - or both.

Thanks for that, but where is the oil strainer??

I was thinking of doing an oil and oil filter change tomorrow, as i was told it might possibly be a build up of pressure that is stopping the oil from flowing through....could this solve it???

It will be in the sump, so that would need to come off to replace it.

Also make sure its not the oil pump thats failing, otherwise it will also starve the oil supply to the engine.

I had both of mine replaced with the car having only done 49K.
