I had to post this up:

Its time to let the cat out of the bag so to speak, we’ve been working on this project for some time but haven’t said much about it. It’s really coming along though, and we’re getting very excited about it, so here are some of the details. 8)
THE PURPOSE
The car will debut at the 2007 Eurotuner Grand Prix in late September, so we’re making a big push to finish it, we’ll also be running the car at the Redline and Superstreet Time Attack series, as well as many Audi club and other track day events. Ultimately, the purpose of the car is to promote 034Motorsport products and services, to serve as a product development test bed, and to make grown men go “poopie in their pants” when they get a ride.
The car must be fast in the quarter-mile, must put down big-ish dyno #’s, and also haul around a track eating EVO’s in a single turn. Oh yea, it has to be drop dead reliable and dead nuts sexy as well.
THE HISTORY
Mid 2006 Matrix Integrated (in Washington State) put an A4 quattro rolling-chassis up for sale, gutted, caged, stock CV’s and rear diff still installed, no engine or other drivetrain to speak of. In a moment of impulsiveness, Issam Abed purchased the chassis as it was a pretty good deal. We began speaking about it and the potential of the chassis had, and decided it would make a great platform for an 034Motorsport Time Attack car we’d [034] been wanting to build. The cage and basic frame/chassis prep was already done, so all we had to do was put it together with some drivetrain and wala, easy! We took delivery of the chassis in early 2007 and began making preparation to have it done by the fall. All other work and parts performed are of 034Motorsport and its partner sponsors, overall a real team effort 8)
THE ENGINE
We wanted a motor that was powerful, reliable, low lag and very tractable, different, and affordable. No Cosworth V8’s here, something someone could emulate in their garage for a sane budget. The different part ruled out the 1.8t or 2.7tt (which are both great motors obviously), I5 was too long and we already proved the hell out of that one. It either left the Harley V-Twin or the VW VR6 engine, and when late last year someone offered us a free 12v AAA long block with all accessories on it, the Harley started to look really expensive. The VR6 made a lot of sense, and Issam’s incessant hounding and panting over the topic helped too. The VR6 is compact, though it’s a little longer than a 2.7t, its as narrow as a 1.8t which leaves lots of room on the sides for cool turbo (NO ‘s) and stuff. There is still plenty of room to fit the engine with a stock core support (slightly trimmed), and these Mo-effin VR6’s, even 12v’s, make tons of power, are very bulletproof and a dime-a-dozen.

Let me just say for the record that none of this would have been possible without 034 and the community owes them a HUGE as we have all been drooling over a VR6 equipped A4 but have either been too afraid to try or were patiently awaiting someone else to do it.Well now the wait is over thanks to Javad & the team.

Awesome project but is that a different VR6 engine to the normal VW one as it looks nothing like a VR enging.

Not a different engine that is what vrs look like when you take off the intake manifold that you would recognise

Cool i understand now :)

Where you find this? Great find.

One of a few forums I follow and I just love what they are doing as we all know the VR6 engine is quite cheap and tuning parts are just as available has the 1.8T engine but the difference is the power gains could be much higher and it also put you in the realms of the S4 with the right set-up and we are talking a tuned S4.

Love it what a project i would love a track car like that :)

all i can say is WOW!

would this be a cheap mod to do on a existing A4?

looks like alot of blood, sweat n tears went in to that project!!

im with MArk n Doc! love this car for a track day and normal road use and whip a few M3s along the way! :arco:

thanks for posting this here mate!

I want one in my car as a every day car and then do track days and hound the RS4's:laugh:

Hell yeah :) that would be sweet as im sure all the porsche and lambo boys will be bricking it as well.

just noticed the turbo they used! its a Garret GT3582R!

its capable of 600BHP!!! i know ATP figures are usually exaggerated according to alot of people, but even if it acheived 500BHP thats an acheivement and its going to be 1 fast car!

id love to get more info on this and see how much it would cost!

I thought the VR6 and the Audi 2.8 were the same engine

Nah, the Audi 2.8 is a traditional V6. Not sure of the angle but probably 60 or 90 degrees. VR6 is only a 15 degree V.

I guess the OP went the VR6 route is it leaves much more engine bay available for "extras"

You can follow the thread here as it's there own forum and more info can be found there.

My mate as a Supercharged V6 Jetta and it's dam fast I used to have problems beating him in my Audi 2.8 supercharged A4 and with his Supercharger I would not stand a chance, put it this way he took on a Supercharged Jag the other day and sat on his bumper to 155mph when the Jag speed limiter kicked in he went round him and blasted away.

They are exspecting 500bhp with that turbo but plan on fitting a larger GT42 to produce 700bhp.

Now 700bhp is too mad for me but a nice 400bhp to 450bhp as a daily drive would be nice just need to find out what sort of lag this GT35 is going to give as a GT30 may be the better option for day to day use and would the internals need doing is the next question based on a 24v 2.8?

yeh, just read that in the link you posted! its crazy, i would be happy with the same for day to day driving!

im excited lol! dunno why cus i dont think id be doing anytihng like that anytime soon!

im assuming that would not be possible with miens then? a 1.8T?

i think the internal would need doing if pushing more than 350-400BHP. with mines its recomended at 300bhp

I can't see why we could not fit this in a 1.8T as I'm sure that the A4 being done was a 1.8T.

The one thing I miss from my old Passat was the sound of the VR6 - it would be awesome to have one in my A4.

I expect it would be ultimately cheaper to just get an S4, but I like the idea of doing what most would say is pointless/impossible :icon_thumright:

Most would say tuning a car full stop is a waste as our roads only allow us to do 70mph anyway.:eyebrows:

good point!

we need bigger motorways and better roads like everyone else!

yeah we need advanced road management like the Germans autobahn, instead of being in the dark ages wid a limit of 70mph. Watched a documentary on autobahn, only prob they have is with some people driving cars way too powerful for their driving skills killing themselves, very rare they kill others, which would be the argument from our gov and do good`rs everywhere.

sounds crazy! Fast too! i want that VR6 + GT35 in my car now lol

thanks for the link Doc!
