oil light flashed up?

was driving my dads a4 1.8t on motorway , was driving it hard and oil light flashed up so stopped checked oil and was ok , restarted car oil light stayed off there was tapping from engine but then went away after a while , could it be the oil pump?

Don't mean to put the fear in you, but take a look at http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html and go down to the Audi paragraph.

I think the tapping is normal its not necessarly the engine as the ignitor or somthing that sits on the air box make quite a loud tapping/ticking noise.
