Help!

I came off the motorway last night and as I turned onto the roundabout I heard some sort of grinding noise and couldn't select another gear as normal. I then managed to do so and carried on home with no problem.

This morning I started the car up but can't get the car into any gear.

Before I start calling round my local garages in Maidenhead to see who can come and collect it to have a look, does anyone have any ideas on what it could be - clutch (feels "normal") /gearbox,other?.

It's an A4 Avant SE 2.8 1997

Many thanks to anyone who can give me some suggestions

Prob just the linkage. Happend on my old Pug 205. Goes the gear stick wag arround like sturring porrage or does it move as it should.

Hi

Gearstick feel seems no different to before. I can push the clutch pedal down as normal but can't get the stick to engage any of the gears at all.

Still might be the linkage on mine all i needed was a new bolt that hand sheered. You would need to get a look under the car to be sure.

OK - thanks for the advice. Will have a look later.

Once I get the plastic splash guard off underneath the car, whereabouts should I be looking?
