    LPG Coversion

    hi all looking at a new job however i would have to do about 100 miles a day return journey, just wondering if anyone has had a LPG conversion done mine is a 2.4 V6 i believe that it would replace the spare wheel seen them for about 2k for the conversion, do these have any disadvantages, perfomance reliabity issues etc..

    Apparently its completly pointless. LPG costs half the price of petrol but also does half the average MPG so it dosnt actually change anything :O

    done a search on mckay9uk posting here was he said

    I have a 1998 A4 2.4 v6 with an LPG conversion its extremely cheap to run 25=325 miles and one of the main benefits is that it will pass an emmsions test with out the cats fitted when running on gas.

    Well i get about 300- 325 miles per fill up which costs me about 25 with a 2.4 v6 the car runs very well, i shall be having a remap and full exhaust with decat soon, which will give me the advantage of being able to have economy (LPG) or performance (petrol) at the flick of a switch, as there are two ecu's one for the LPG and one for the petrol, the tuner has advised that he can only tune the petrol ECU. so no i dont think it's pointless as there also is the environmental aspect to consider as well. My car is far cheaper to run on gas than it is to run on petrol.

    I drove from Nottingham to Watford over to Slough and back to Nottingham in a mercedes S500 just over 300 miles and it only cost 40 on lpg,i wasnt hanging around either.Would cost loads more on unleaded.

    I spent a great deal of time looking into LPG, quotes, reading up etc.... you would with 18mpg!

    Anyhow, i found alot of people who claimed their cars were unreliable and the LPG systems were nothing but problems. One chaps my brother in law who ran a fleet of vans on LPG, I know not everycar will have problems. There are those on here have had nothing but bliss, but from my point of view talking to so many who were unhappy it's not worth the risk.

    It's also supposed to give you 80 -90% of petrol consumption not 100% One guy i spoke to with a rover 75 got around 25mpg on petrol and only 35 on gas, hardly double. Don't forget thats actually 18mpg at half price! not a bad saving but if your paying 1400 for the conversion it's not so appealing

    Thats also way to expensive, i was quoted around 1300 - 1500 for my V6. 4 cylinders are more like 1200 if you check out traders on ebay.

    Well to be honest this proves that you get whhat you pay for. I didnt fit the cheapest kit i could find but the best, as i intended to keep the car a few years and reliability was paramount, the car hasnt missed a beat in 35,000 miles, the other reason is that LPG is more environmentaly freindly than petrol. I paid 1900 for my conversion.

    Hello

    I got mine back from a conversion place in Milton Keynes last week and so far it's great. I have a 1.8T and the performance feels pretty much the same. I also do a long commute and got 330 miles out of the first 25 quid's worth they put in. The mpg mode in the computer seems to still work and it read 37.9, which is a little down on my normal commute (straight A road, good steady speed, yawn!).
    And it cost £1550 but 6 cylinders will cost more...
