hi guys....just had the alternator belt snap on me today....find out the other 2 belts have snapped as well...one for air con..one for water pump( i think)...had the mechanic come round to take a look and he says the alternator has seized causing all three to snap...is this a common fault???also he says to change it all the front has to be removed!!!! is this true....one last thing....will an alternator from a passat tdi 110 fit the a4...he says they are same....been tryin to find the part compatibilty on net but no luck....thanks for any help/advice.....a4 tdi 110 alternator compatibility????

The alternator from a passat 1.9 TDi 110 will fit as it is exactly the same engine. You will have to take the front panel away to get access to change the belts. You have to remove the front bumper and then undo the torx bolts that hold on the front panel. The whole panel comes away far enough to allow access to change the belts, without the need to remove the radiator or headlights. Hope this is of some help to you.
thanks donald....but will the rad and fans have to come out as the mechanic suggests to take out the old alternator....

No, they don't have to come out, it all comes away together when you remove the front panel. You don't disconnect any pipework or wiring.
