ECU WATERLOGED

Hi everyone, im new to this forum. A4 2.4 SE auto.1999. The ECU in the drivers footwell has been imersed in water for some time, consequently the auto gearbox has engaged backup mode. Main dealer wants an arm and 2 legs, whats my best course of action?. please help.

If you have a look down by the battery there is a drain plug under the battery that may be blocked allowing water to get in the car.

....or a grommet thats not correctly in place could let water through.
