ok my CTE gearbox is getting very nosiey in my 1.8T sport FWD 1996 i have found a secondhand one with low miles on it cheap but is a DHW. Ive loooked up on Elsawin both gearboxes and they look much the same.

Here are the ratio's for both gearboxes can someone confirm that it will be ok

My box CTE

Final Drive 37: 10=3.700
1st 35: 10=3.500
2nd 36: 17=2.110
3rd 39: 30=1.300
4th 35: 34=1.029
5th 31: 37=0.838
Reverse 31: 9=3.444

Clutch 228mm
Driveshat 108mm
overall ratio topgear 3.444 <----- this is the only number which is diffrent

The box im thinking of buying DHW

Final Drive 37: 10=3.700
1st 35: 10=3.500
2nd 36: 17=2.110
3rd 39: 30=1.300
4th 35: 34=1.029
5th 31: 37=0.838
Reverse 31: 9=3.444

Clutch 228mm
Driveshat 108mm
overall ratio topgear 3.100 <----

can anybody confirm that the gearbox will be ok and what diffrence the topgear ratio will make to my car going from 3.444 on the CTE to 3.100 on the DHW

cheers all

don't know you will have to check bolt pattern, what year it is compare to yours may give some hints but you need to check in detail the specs.. spline numbers on input and output shafts will need to match if you are going to use your original items

final drive, the lower the number the lower your revs will be, essentially it is the ratio of the back end that makes this, this box you want to put in will behave the same if you use your original rear end.

EDIT: oops just realise front wheel drive, so that would be the front end diff not the rear end.

im finding it hard getting hold of a good box and not one for under 200 quid

can you point me in the right place and ideas on which box i should get which isnt gonna cause me loads of hassle

cheers all
