wheel/tyre sizes

my a4 currently runs standard wheels(16" with 205/55 tyres) if i were to change to 17" or 18" wheels, which size tyre will i have to fit as not to foul arches and keep same overall diameter?

A few percent doesn't matter much (remember that tyres wear from about 6 to 1.6 mm tread depth).

dont worry you foul the arches with 17" for some reason i found i needed to lower my car as it looked like a 4x4.

LOL I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS WELL PUT MY 18" RS6 WHEELS WOW MY CAR LOOKED LIKE A AUDI ALLROAD SAT SO HIGH COULDNT WAIT TO GET IT SLAMMED.
