chipping a 1.8t bad for engine?

I'm about to buy a 1998 A4 1.8t quattro, and I wanted to know if chipping the engine is bad for it. Can the stock internals handle the up in boost and still remain reliable? It seems like everyone with an Audi chips their engine so it probably is ok, but I just want to make sure I'm not putting excessive strain on my engine right away. Thank you very much!

No strain on the engine whatsoever! The turbo is the weak link but regular oil cahnges will see you good.

Like he said, especially with a turbo charged car....chipping the engine would be a large strain on the engine....
