hi
i have a 110 bhp 1.9tdi. being my first diesel i wasn't really sure on how quick iot would be so didn't really think nothing of it when i'm getting top speed of 85-90mph and takes an eternity to get there unless going down a hill. really poor acceleration is standard and if i'm cruising on the motorway and hit a big hill i cannot sustain my speed..
anyway i thought an ecu remap was in order, i had this done and had no real significant gains apart from possibly a tiny bit quicker off the mark. the guy that mapped it was really good and spent 2 hours of his own time with me. he was confused why the map made no difference but on driving it he said that i'm driving the car without a turbo.
i was told that a new maf filter was put on the car by the previous owner less than 2 weeks prior (i had receipt) so his attention went to the turbo. he took off the actuator and tried to wind it up, he was not an audi specialist but didn't think the actuator should be floppy and there should be pressure on the bar. on refitting again no improvement but he was sure there is nothing wrong with the turbo but it doesn't seem to be kicking in fully. i left there with the advise that i need a new actuator.
on returning home i decided to unplug the maf to see what difference it made and it hardly made any!
i'm no expert but if i unplug the maf shouldnt there be a noticable difference in performance? if this is the case then perhaps i didn't have a new maf after all and this is the power problem? can anyone fill me in or advise as i need to unleash the beast!
cheers

(Go with the MAF) other things to do first ..check all the pipe work connected to the inlet manifold for splits going to the turbo the slightist leak will lose you boost from the turbo i.e tighten all hose clips, take the old MAF out and soak the sensor in petrol/carb cleaner easy job!....to check the EGR Valve(Actuator) watch the diaghram go in and out when you rev the engine there should 3 inch of movement in it (helper needed for that task) .tell us how you get on

(TIP) trust no one till you see it for yourself

Cheers

Steve, thanks for the reply

i checked for splits in all rubber hoses and they all checked out ok. the large (approx 3") hose that comes down from the turbo was caked in oil which seems due to a jubilee clip that needed a tighten (found 3 other jubilee clips in the engine that needed tightening. how lond does it take to tighten one of these!!!!!?)
after tightening up the clip near the turbo i checked but made no difference as still can't hear the turbo kick in.

the Egr valve (actutor) was checked and the diagham bar did not move. i'm guessing this or something that controls this is at fault for my turbo not kicking in.

i bought a MAF filter on ebay this morning so won't bother cleaning the sensor (i may not even need this now!) you are so right about trusting nobody especially when they may be making money from it.

where do you think i should go now? replace the actuator? what else could cause the actuator not to function? would a vag-com scan help to locate the problem?

cheers

i've just had a scan done, this is what it come back with......

01265 exhaust gas recirc valve - open or short to ground
00575 intake manifold pressure - control difference intermittant
00553 mass air flow (g70) - open or short to ground

any thoughts?

now been told that the actuator bar will not move while i rev the engine as the turbo has no boost, can anyone confirm this either way?

cheers

Yes a little bit crossed over here

01265 exhaust gas recirc valve - open or short to ground = EGR Valve

PIC of the whole system to save confusion

Sounds like the boost control valve, symptoms are similar to my recent problem. Not sure which one of your references is correct, was N75 on mine.

car is not starting now!

i found a split in one of the hoses, repaired this then working turbo! well happy!
took her for a test drive, good for about 20 mins put my foot down and lost all power. limped home with shed loads of smoke.
went to try again the following morning and the ****** thing wont start!

any ideas what's happened?

vag-com is just showing.......
01265 exhaust gas recirc valve - open or short to ground

this has always showed but could it have got worst and now be related to it not starting?
sounds like no fuel is getting through as it just spins but fuel is coming through ok.

i'm really stuck! any suggestions?

thanks
