Immobiliser, can it be turned off or disconnected?

Can anyone tell me how to disconnect or turn off the factory fitted immobiliser on my 96 1.8T? I have searched for previous posts but can find any specific instructions. I want to turn it off as its always playing up. I know you can just tape the chip to the immobiliser box but I don’t think will fix the problem.

dont think so.

If you could it would make stealing them a bit easy.
