How much power can a 2.7T produce?

Assuming that money was no object, how much power can you realistically expect to get out of an S4 2.7T engine?

I have seen some RS4s with, so they say, 600 BHP. Does anyone know of an S4/RS4 with more?

What would have to be done, and how much would it cost, to get 600+ BHP?

Re: How much power can a 2.7T produce?

i think there was an rs4 reported at 630hp with turbo's with noz on top, serious internal work would be needed on a s4.

check tuners in the USA and GT28 series turbos, they're the way for big power or the k24 or k26 turbo upgrade

that'd be the one i was thinking of , it would be incredible to hear that on stock internals without seeing the results and yet there it is good work autospeed!

OK, but how much would it cost and where can it be done in the UK???

I do not know whether to sell the S4 and get a 997 or keep the S4 but do some serious work to it.

Re: How much power can a 2.7T produce?

Sensibly you could get a set of RS4 intercoolers, turbos, injectors, fuel pump and get 450+... anymore and I would consider replacing the internals.

Re: How much power can a 2.7T produce?

We supply the turbo kit for the RS4 upgrade for ~2k... Fitting is the expensive part though. You will see 450+ for shy of 6k i reckon.

try http://www.mrctuning.com/ you wont be sorry , from hearing people in the uk talk about them they are probably top for getting the most out of your car

but tbh if i had choice and no reason to keep a car as big as an s4 i would get the 997, big audi's are a lardy really, few people own or have experience on here of both and can advise you

Keep the S4 !, much more of a stealth car, won't attract too much attention and would be awesome with 500 bhp.

Iv had both a S4 and got a GT2 atm

The S4 is a real rag machine, you can drive it like you stole it all day long whereas with the porka you cant

have a look at www.rs246.com - in the S4 2.7t section - LOTS of people with modded cars etc - may be worth getting their opinion.

As dummi mentioned MRC are regarded very highly (I am off there this saturday before santapod) for a checkup.

MRC are fantastic from personal experience and can do anything you want to your S4. The big plus is they love the brand and won't do anything that could cause damage in later life. Check out Doug's 450bhp S2 whilst you're there......

    Hi Dummi,

Just looked in your signature and see that you have an A6 2.7T with a high spec engine.

Have you fitted the oil cooler to your gearbox?

Have been thinking about S4 or A6 2.7T - chipped.

Was looking in the Audi study guide and note that no oil cooler fitted to the A6 gearbox as standard.

You've probably already thought of it but would be a shame to trash a gearbox for the sake of a cooler.

Re: How much power can a 2.7T produce?

the stock box is ok circa 500hp afaik, after that i'd probably start uprating internals for peace of mind, though many haven't without problems

check on buehnengineering.com many people are safely running near that on hybrids with mostly stock s4's

the TIP box is rated to 350hp

i've been conservative with mine i want to get a few more reliable years out of it as a daily then maybe i'll uprate it and upgrade the power

with a chipped 2.7t making 320hp you shouldn't have any problems with the gearbox

this is what i gather when doing my research

the audi study guide is a good place to start for familiarising post what modifications your doing to your 2.7t

A friend of mine is running around 630bhp on pump gas in the states, no problems.

We can get the kit fitted here in the UK and mapped it to suit UK fuel.

What I meant was, is that the S4 does have a gearbox oil cooler as standard, whereas the A6 2.7T does not.

More often than not it's the driver that effects how much power you can use, a harsh driver could kill a gearbox in a fiesta 1.1 after all...

Exactly. Shock force is generally what breaks stuff. Smooth gear changes will not kill a gearbox like real aggressive changes will.

Well, I have decided that at the next service, 3K time, I will book the S4 into Westec performance and get them to give it a clean bill of health.

Something is causing the biggest flat spot the world has ever seen. The power really drops off between 4K and 5.2K then all hell breaks loose again. Weird.

Mmm... sonic - I would be nursing the car to a true specialist to get it checked out.

Boost Leak could cause your turbos to overspin and die in seconds!! I nearly suffered this!

Make sure when your car goes in they check your MAF reading with VAG-Com. Standard should read 210-220 & chipped 250ish. Anything under these and your MAF is shot. I had the same problem you describe... the car being a little flat (My maf was only just STARTING to go) and my MAF reading was 210 & my car is chipped. Replaced and it pulls like a train again smooth and strong all the way.

Have a look here for common faults:

Re: How much power can a 2.7T produce?

I would check out the following, the first and easiest is for a split in the throttle body boot then the F hose.

If you haven't already changed your diverter valves I would change those anyway (the cheapest and best value is to change them for the TT ones), 710n. They are only about 20 each.

If you have access to VAG-com check out the MAF as again if this has not been changed yet it could be the cause. I have changed all these (except the F Hose) on my 99 S4. Most were done under warranty.

The MAF is the most expensive part (about 75). The boot and F hose are around 10. There is a revised part for the throttle body boot which is less prone to splitting. These are all common issues on the S4.
