<font color="black"> hello people
i've discovered an oil leak coming from the top rear end of my engine ,
i've changed the rocker cover gasket
and there still seems to be oil dripping onto manifold
<font color="black"> i tried to have another look, could be coming from
around the 'camshaft adjuster' area, would this produce
an oil leak? does it have a gasket or oil ring which
may need replacing ? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
many thanks,

hello again everyone,
could anyone possibly help me
with this problem, your comments and sugestions would be much appreciated.
many thanks

Have a look at www.mcmillan-uk.com/Valve gear service.pdf - there does seem to be a seal at the back of the engine by the camshaft adjuster.

Mine also has a very slight oil leak - I tried replacing the rocker cover gasket which doesn't seem to have made any difference so I guess it is coming from somewhere else.

I will have another look when the weather improves, but to be honest I think most of the 2.8's have a slight oil leak - mine has done it since I got it with 57k on it and my Dad used to have an A4 2.8q which also had the same problem.

Full view of Engine and seals

I would take engine cover off and get Carb Cleaner and spray over area were you think the leak is coming from and that should clean right back to shiny alloy and give you a good indication were it is coming from and with(web link )you should be able to tell what seal it is ,that is leaking

If you could take pics of oil leaki or area that might give a getter idea for ideas and remedies

Cheers
