The problem:
In the last few weeks the gearbox has developed a few problems.
1. When the car is cold and within a few seconds of reaching the junction at the end of my road, after stopping and then pulling away again, there is a momentary pause from standstill before first gear engages with a bit of a 'shunt'. This sometimes happens a few moments later at the next junction. I don't seem to think this happens much when the car has been running for a bit but I do think the up changes in general are not as smooth as they used to be.
2. On occasions, whether the car is warm or cold, when coming to a standstill and engaging reverse there is a longer pause of 1-3 seconds and then reverse engages with a minor 'shunt'.
The automatic box had an oil and filter change about 4 months ago. I had no problems at all prior to the service, but I also don't recall these problems starting until a few weeks ago suggesting the service is perhaps not at fault.
Can the cold weather affect an automatic box much?
Could the wrong ATF fluid affect things?
Can the level of ATF fluid affect this?
