    Snub Mount - 1.8T

Ive got to do a load of jobs at the front of my A4, and I'm thinking of pulling the front into 'service position' to make it easier. Whilst I'm at it, I want to fit a new snub mount.

    I'm thinking of going for somthing firmer than standard, so my question are;
    - what have people here got?
    - where did you get it?
    - is it worth it? or should i just fit a new OEM quality one (lemforder or meyle etc).

    Ta!

RS4 ones are a bit sturdier/thicker and arent that expensive from Audi.

Or you can go for various polyurethane ones.

when some work ( cambelt for starters ) was done on 'her'1.8TQS I got them to fit a new RS4 one. Think it was about £12 and of course it looks stock !!
Can't say I noticed much difference, but along with an engine mount it has to help after 13+years and 85k miles !
Rear diff and possibly gearbox mounts may be next !

All my engine & gear box mounts were well passed goosed, but that was after 14 years & 270K miles the gearbox mounts were in the worst condition.

What was the effect of the box mount failing?

still chasing a thud when I let off the throttle - front diff mount is my next target.

i replaced everything chasing that thud and only made it worse

It seems theres a few causes, so sometimes you'll get lucky with the mounts, in my case its some sort of drivetrain slack, which simply became more and more obvious as i tightened everything up.

Ive also thought the same thing but my engine does move alot so going to do them along with the subframe bushes the only other thing i could point it to is the prop but dont fancy the price of the 034 one-piece prop lol

Got an RS4 snub mount here ready to fit.

It was mentioned (by Bradderz I think) in another thread that you dont need to remove the front end to do this. How is best to do this?

Jack up car remove the snub bracket bolts and slide over snub towards bumper, knock off old one, knock on new one bit of lube will help, i had to jack the engine a little on mine by removing lower engine mount nuts (2x 13mm) but i fitted 034 snub and bracket so was tight for space as bracket has no opening to slide over snub, then bolt mount bracket back up, jobs a good un !!!

Awesome - thanks. did you undo both engine mounts to lift the engine?

Just to clarify, I only unbolt the alloy snub bracket from the front of the engien, and then push it all the way over the snub towards the front of the car. I should then be able to get the old one out.

Sounds good to me! a lot easier than taking the entire front off.

Gave this a go last week, didnt really go to plan! lol

Jacked the car up, under tray off, unbolted snub bracket, popped the old snub out with a screwdrive and a bit of force, turned out it was split down one edge, and Id split it a bit more levering it off. There was no way the new one was going in though, even with the engine lifted. In the end the front end came off and I did it the traditional way, doesnt take too long but a lot longer than planned!

haha yea. Yup, its all sorted and made a difference to how it drives.

Also replaced the vac hose to the diverter as it was almost worn through - looked perforated before. It definitely goes better now but did hold boot OK before. Using Sytec vac hose, which is black with a cotton over braid like the original Audi stuff, but has about twice the wall thickness and is actually sold as fuel line, so should be a bit more resistant. A nice OEM looking replacement.

I presume from the post above that the RS4 mount will fit on the 1.8T AJL engine ? Does anyone have the part number for it?
