CANNOT BELIEEEEEVE MPG!!!!!!!!

Normally we just bomb round here booting the car about and stick bout a fiva a day in maybe a tenner some days (rare) anyway the other day I had to go and visit my poorly uncle over in north Manchester (roughly 25/30 miles) anyway I go the petrol garage and stick a tenna in I took the East Lancs (A580) from my gaff then slipped on the M60 for a bit, When we had reached the hospital which BTW was quite some distance from the house we had driven to THE FUEL GAUGE HAD HARDLY MOVED!!!!!!! Then we got back home later and the was still plenty of juice left we even drove round (flying about as norm) for a day or so later before we had to refuel! UNBELIEVABLE! It was like driving a ****** 1000cc Metro about or better I cant believe the MPG on such a big motor, love it

is that the 110 AFN you have?
all my VAG 110's have been great on fuel.

Right, right, so are are they known for good MPG then, them old AFNs

What sort of job is it like to change the timing belt on one of these, I would have done one many many moons ago but got a ****e memory, are we talkin specialist tools or improvised etc, most of the "specialist" tools we were supposed to use were improvised, (drill bits, bolts etc0 LOL

yea the old AFN engine is known to be good on fuel. our first used to give us nearly 70mpg on a run..
hardest bit about doing the timing belt is stripping down the front end.

I would imagine you could lock it up with a few drill bits and a flat bar on the rear of the cam.
the last one I done I just marked it with tipex and never had a problem

I averaged a massive 28mpg over the AITP weekend!

What engine was that? the last figures I saw that low I had a Jag and I once had 7MPG out of a Volvo 850 t5 but this thing is THE most economical motor ive owned EVER and I have had A LOT!

worst MPG ive ever seen was one of my dads old american 4x4 international station wagon im pretty sure it was about 2 gallon to the mile. He drove it like that for about a week then converted it to diesel

the worst thing I had was a v12 jag it done about 5MPG but I think that was because I loved the noise of it and drove it like a loony.
I owned it for 4 days paid penny's for it as a non runner.. I got it running on the boys drive and drove it home ( his face said it all )
I had 4 days of fun with it then sold it to a boy I done work for and made a very nice profit. but still have no ideas on how much it cost me on fuel

Arrrgh ye old v12s lol now they do have a drinking problem but what an acoustic exhaust note eh, i couldnt own one again as i would be like you foot to floor!

Its amazing how MPGs have so improved, I had a 1.3 pre crossflow Mk2 Cortina yonks back and the MPG on that thing was like driving a V8 Rover lol, but these later Diesels impress me proppa, after repairing the intercooler hose yesterday on my AFN it ****** flies, next, today Mr Muscle is going in, then later the 130 PD manifold off ADDAMS 24 ONCE IVE BOUGHT! Iam chuffed with this old b5, I was considering getting something dead quick (family car ) again maybe a SAAB 9 5 HOT turbo with 250 BHP or another T5 but think I will stick wih the Audi for now
