    Oil stat

    Do 1.8T's have a thermostat in the oil to water cooler thats on the filter?

    I know that my water thermostat isnt working so I'm just ordering up a new one, but was wondering if theres any control on the oil. My oil temps are low anyway due to the water thermostat, but its important to get oil properly up to temp to ensure any moisture is boiled off.

    I dont beleive there is.

    I guess there doesnt need to be either. When the engines warming up, the coolant heats faster than the oil, so the "cooler" acts as an oil heater, helping get the oil up to temperature faster.

    Once at normal running temp, the thermostat keeps the coolant at 90c, and the exchanger keeps the oil at 90c. If the oil gets hotter the coolant will cool it down. if the oil gets cooler for some reason, the cooler will heat it up again.

    Yea, good point. I was thinking of it like an air-oil setup that Im used to working with.

    Good to know that they low oil / water temp should all be fixed my a new thermostat.
