Just bought me a s4 b5 have a couple of problems that have come to my attention . Test drove it heard a slight knock but only when pulling away sounded asif it was the rear brakes sticking slightly which made sense where it had been sat for a little while . Any way after a 100 mile trip on the motorway got back and on the B roads to notice the knocks has became more often still at low speed . Any one know what this could mean ? I know the ball joints can be expensive hoping its some bushes or something not to seriouse since the noise is at only very low speed .whining has also started to come whilst turning at low speeds sounds asif it could be power steering pump maybe but don't know .

can any one inform me of what may be up with mme new motor ?

the only way you're going to find out what the knock is, is to check every bush and balljoint front and rear. Its most likely the front though.

Try finding an area of road where you know it knocks, and drive over it while applying the brakes.

That will rule out any caliper/pad issues. If it stops, investigate the brakes, if it doesnt, its suspension.

My brother had a similar knock on his S4, we thaught it was balljoints until i noticed it went away when he braked, turned out the sliders on the (horrible) front calipers were worn and the caliper was rattling around. Fitted B6 S4 fronts and problem went away.

Thanks for the reply's guys have just taken it to my local audi specialist just took one of the mechanics for a drive to show the problems they didn't seem to worried at all which was a huge relief .
Just fingers crossed all's well when they give it a full going over .
