I have a 1998 a4 1.8t avant, and after taking it to audi for a diagnostic and service they said that there are 2 faults which are:-

THE CAM SENSOR: Is this just a straight unbolt and bolt on job or is it more complicated than that?

THE WASTEGATE VALVE: Think this is out of my league.

Any comments and advice will be greatly appreciated thanks.

The 1.8t cam sensor is two 10mm bolts and a plug. thats it.... 10min job :icon_thumright:

It depends what they refer to as the wastegate valve, if its:
  • the N75 (electrical solenoid), fiddly but can be done quite easily
  • the Wastegate actuator, turbo has to come off to change it.
  • the wastegate flap (usually rattles), again, whichever route its turbo off. Either replace turbo, or as i did, find a good condition exhaust housing and swap it.

The code was N75.
I'm not too bad with amatuer mechanics but i would'nt say im a professional at all.
Do you think its possible to fix at home or is it best to take it to a garage,
A home fix would be better as the garages are very expensive and also its a learning curve.
Thanks for your help.
