instrument display gone

Hope someone can help, but I can't get my head around this problem. The center LCD display has gone....one minute it was there the next nothing just a black screen, I understand that nothing lasts for ever. What i don't understand is that the yellow ok is still fine and the door open sign is still fine which shows the LCD is working. Is there something external to the display which could give this problem as I don't want to spend all the money changing it for no reason.

Do you know that you can turn it off by pressing the reset button?

Sorry if you know this already. Is just incase you dont.

Hey Soupie...Weird thing is I tried to the reset button earlier when it first happened, but thought I would make sure by just trying it again. I think the reset button must be a bit sticky or something cause I tried a couple of time and nothing....then once more and the display came back on. Thanks for mentioning the reset cause i would never have thought to try it again
