I've got an S2 avant at the mo and I'm looking to upgrade to an S4. What should I be looking for. i.e. comon problems engine probs etc.

Any advice would be great.

Depends on year but apart from the obvious check the following:
Cambelt & tensioners, water pump, wheel bearings, manifold, MAF, DV's, rocker cover gasket.
