    Pothole Damage Report.

Hit a pot hole on Saturday, thought it was ok but after driving to work it did not feel good.

Dropped it off to the garage to find out what broken/faulty and this is what I was given.

Tyre's side wall has a chunk missing.
    Wheel is buckled.
N/S lower arms F and R appears to be bent.
    ARB link appears bent.
Chance that the ARB is bent.

The suspension parts are not 100% apparently cause they can't see while they are on the car but they said the wheel is sitting half an inch towards the back of the car when compared to the O/S wheel and the wheel touches the ARB on full lock.

Well, that sucks on my first day back.

Can I buy the lower arms and ARB link from Meyle with out having to buy the kit?

What's the chances of the ARB being bent?
If it is, do I have to go to Audi and get one is there a good after market option?

I'll brb, I'm off to cry in the corner somewhere.

    Bummer!

You may not have bent the anti-roll bar - they have some 'give' so hopefully you're ok.

If not, you can easily get a second-hand one, but get new bushes from Audi. I think the after-market ones will all be stiffer than stock and not cheap. The Quattro ones are different, and there may be PR code differences for the 1.9TDi Auto Avant (Kev will know for sure)

You can buy the arms individually - I did that for the Avant, just called Jason from All German and told him what I was after no problem. The prices vary for each arm, the lowers were bigger - and thus more expensive!

You'll get a wheel secondhand easily enough.

Was it only the front that hit?

Theres a quintillion used ARB's available so defo dont be buying a new one!

Not sure what you will have as standard, but one from any sport model will work fine.

If the car hasnt had new arms, i'd just buy a full set.

At the very least your going to need to replace everything on that side of the car, and by that point, you might as well just buy everything and have it all fresh and new.

The upright itself could also be bent.

Just got a quote from for £160 all in for the arms.

    That's not to bad.
Just the wheel and tyre to deal with.

If the general consensus is that the ARB is not bent, I'll leave it.
Any way to test while its on the car?

point is two arms is 160,

all 8 arms, the track rod ends, the ARB links etc in a full kit is 350ish...

If its hit the hole hard enough to bend the lower arms and ARB link, why wouldnt you think it has also damaged the upper arms or upright?

Its a 14 month old complete Meyle HD kit.
I'd rather not have to buy it all over again.

    3 arms not 2.

cause of its location and amount of shock the bushes has taken up to help soften the damage when it got that high.
    So I'm hoping its ok.

Picked the car up and parked it up.
The wheels look like they sit pretty well and equal but I guess there is more to something being bent.

I'm going to hopefully get it up on the ramps at another garage tomorrow so I can have a look my self and get some pics.

Is there any thing I can look at, measure or check while its on the ramps to see if any thing is bent?

As Kev said, check the upright carefully for bentness and the spring for cracks.

The ARB might be hard to tell if it's bent or not. I had some pics of my upgraded one in my suspension thread that should be about the same to look at. At least you might be able to tell if it's bent in the right places!

If you find nothing obvious, I'd be tempted to leave it and drive it for a bit to see if it feel different.

Once your done, put it in for 4 wheel alignment

Just had a look at the car with the garage I use all the time and we can't find any thing wrong.
Nothing looks bent, the space is all the same, no rubbing or movement.
No idea what the other garage was talking about.

The tyre needs replacing, the wheel needs fixing and the tracking doing.
That's all we can see what's wrong.

Cool, thats a bit naughty for the first garage to give a parts list like that, maybe they have been quiet lately and are trying to bump up jobs? One to avoid in future I guess

    Is a bit naughty.
The joys of them being really really close to work, its some times to easy to go there with out looking further afield.

Off to get tyres and tracking this Friday.
Looking in to getting the wheel fixed.
