sat nav or pda tom tom questions

hi all i have a b5 a4 with a symphony cd (double din type) so im think the sat nat plus unit could just slot in ,


what extra wiring would i need to get it working ?

is there a website that shows how this is done

or should i go for the pda type tom tom

looking for pros and cons

Personally would prefer the built in unit, looks grreat in the dash, very neat.. there's been loads of threads here on exactly this subject if you do a search, craigyb being the man i think you need to speak with!! lots of pics too

However, I dont have it in my dash, and do have a tomtom.. very neat, easy, arguably much cheaper and certainly less hassle than upgrading to a built in one, works extremely well and can be swapped to the other car as required..

so for me, the only reason for the satnav plus would be that 'original equipment' look.. is it worth the time money and hassle? only YOU can decide that, it wasnt for me..

not sure about resale value either, others best placed to comment on that

with Tomtom, you'll be up and running 10mins after you get home from the shop! (or at least after youve charged it!) just doesnt look as neat.

SatNav Plus will slot straight into a double-din cage, you just have to make sure you get the correct revision for your year of car and I can't remember which is which off the top of my head. Some have provision for CAN bus which enables it in your DIS, some don't (older models at a guess...)

As already suggested, do a search because it has been covered quite a few times already /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I considered doing this myself when I saw a cheap SatNav Plus unit on German e-bay but when I realised the install meant swapping my whole centre console (because I have a single-din stereo), the cage, the ashtray and the corresponding Climate Control unit... you get my meaning /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
