has any one got a lowered a4 b5 and fitted 18*8 et38 wheels? I want to order some but need to be certain they are going to fit eg clearance as they cant be returned. cheers

I believe 8x18 ET38 is a fairly common fitment on the B5!

But being lowered (not sure by how much) will there be enough clearance?

I currently have 8x18 ET35 lowered 40mm Sport with no problems so yours should be fine.
