My trusty steed... aka Amtrak locomotive is now at 140k and due a timing belt replacement. It was last done at 79k or 4 years ago. The MOT is due next month...so looks like its beans on toast for the foreseeable!

One of the rear springs is goosed... and I've already been quoted £150 for those (that's including VAT and 15% main dealer discount), which I can fit myself.

I need to replace the timing belt, auxilliary belts, thermostat, water pump and seal, G12 coolant, etc to be done by local and trusted Indy.

I'll probably source OE parts for timing belt kit, auxilliary belts and water pump (metal impeller) from Murrays VW/Audi, and get genuine thermostat, G12 coolant and rear springs from main dealer. Main dealer mentioned the hydraulic dampner too at £112 - is this essential - or leave for the mechanic to decide?

Cheers folks.

A decent timing belt kit from the likes of Contitech will include the damper.

For the springs, i'd spend the money on an Eibach prokit, better ride, slight lowering and you'll get all four for the same price as two from Audi.
