    Remap Advice Needed

Been doing a lot of research recently regarding who or what map to go for on my S4. MRC has some very good reviews so what is your opinions I want it to be a punchy drive and read the Revo is like that so who do I go to and use opinions please. The car is presently running 0.70 bar and I have been informed the Revo takes the boost to around 1.2 bar not sure what others do

    Mods are

I would only really consider using viper tuning or mrc. I currently run a viper tuning map on my rs4 and previously had an mrc map. Fire me a pm if you want more info.

Rick at Unicorn based in Stockport is also another great option. He was the first to offer launch control and flat shift coded into a map and I can tell you it's incredible!

My car is going back to him in a couple of weeks to squeeze more out of my car. The guy is a genius! I had always had MRC maps before and can't fault them either. Also driven a couple of cars with Viper maps, again excellent.

Either of those three options will custom map your car how you like. If you want a neck snapping mid-range, just ask! :-D

    Thanks for the replys.

See I ideally want the car custom mapped I don't want a generic flash as I know from experience every engine is different I see that in the dyno cells at work.

I have also looked everywhere for the software to do them like I had for my evo but there is simply nothing available and it does not seem like as many people have reversed engineered the ECU's like the evo owners have. I have read so many reviews about different products.

I'm not after willy waving BHP figures I want a car that packs a punch and has a good torque range throughout and is drivable

From what I read revo is a generic flash isn't it. I like the reviews I read about MRC. I'm based in Norwich and I don't mind spending the day travelling for the right job to be done I also don't want to be going to a tuner for them to say leave the car with me and go for a wonder that's not going to happen I want to see what's being done all be it from a waiting room or viewing area also want the car to be RR before its done and after so there is evidence the car is producing more torque

I have also data logged my car and the boost is presently making 0.7-0.8 bar now I have searched high and low but to no avail what is the standard boost pressure for a 1999 S4. .

    Thanks for your advice

Everything to do it yourself is available on nefmoto if you want to go down that route.

Obviously its not a trivial job, but it is doable.

I have had a look at that but it appears because of the year of my car 1999 and hooking up the nefmoto software my car does not use the KWP2000 protocol as that's what nefmoto supports so looks like that program is no good

All S4's use the same protocol, and nefmoto should work with all of them just fine.

There are other flashing tools available too like Galletto.

The Nefmoto forum also contains all the information you need on actually tuning the engine.

Why does it switch to KWP1281 on connection and then disconnect. I have looked through the site and even posted but got no reply the only info I could find is that it was 2001 on that used KWP2000. You know of anyone who has used it on a 1999 model ?

No idea, i've never tried it personally.

Might be a quirk with the 551E box that you have, but the ECU's are all fairly similar, and the earlier ECU's will actually run the later ECU code (and vice versa) just fine. Craigs S4 has a G box from a 2001 car and has run both C (1998) and D(2000) box code on it without any issues.

If that is the case, you can either use a different flashing tool like Galletto, or see if you can get the ECU to run some later code that will do KWP2000.

I am very happy with my Map from Viper Tuning... I was able to to send him my ecu which he returned with a stage 2 tune to match my mods (I think using Special delivery each way this can be done in about 2 day's)... was a very cost effective 60bhp gain with plenty of torque... The car is extremely smooth to drive and just pulls in every gear...

Nefmoto won't work on certain ECU's unfortunately.

I can second this, johns car is easily the strongest k03 car i have had the pleasure of being in.

Rick has a very good reputation and being a sponsor on here it is worth having the chat to discuss your options.

As for tuning your own ecu, i spoke with john about it a while ago before he went for his viper map. Everything seems as aragorn says "doable" which it is but for me certain things should be left to the professionals, with the map being one of the most important elements of tuning i would certainly not be trying it myself. Also for the money involved in getting a custom tune from someone such as rick, viper, mrc it will be the best money you spend on the car. Just my little bit marty. I hope you choose one of the tuner mentioned as i doubt you will find anyone better at what they do.

    Cheers.. Eddie...

Yeah I looked into doing the map myself as well, got plenty of info of the the Nefmoto site, but as stated unfortunately the the 2000y+ model S4's ecu (D-box) doesn't seem to support the KWP2000 protocol that most of the available freebie software uses. I could connect with the 1281 and read the loaded map and DTC's but that was it. The 1281 connection also doesn't work when the engine is running which is a PITA as none of the logging software will work either (You don't want to be changing anything in the map unless you can measure it!!)... So by the time you buy the proper rosstech cable and all licences and also checksum correcting software it turned out cheaper to get a professional map.
