Hi All,

I just purchased a 02 A4 Audi 3.0 Quattor... its got 76,000 miles on it. I have been told the belt needs changed about 90,000 but best to do it this time next year to be on the safe side, is this correct?

Also, how come some A4's have the silver line around the windows etc? Can you buy this etc?

It differs, according to different garages, dealers or specialists? some recomended it about 60,000 miles others about 80,000 miles.
if i were you and you can afford to get the job done, do it asap! It'll be a darn sight cheaper than rebuilding or replacing an engine!!! should the worst happen

you should change the waterpump and belt tensioner at the same time. even if they seem ok, this is "common procedure" according to specialists.

how is it that some car manufacturers recomend the timing belt changing 40,000 miles and others at 100,000 miles?

the harder you drive the more frequently belts etc need changing...

so if you rag the car hard... then change it asap.

always err on the side of caution with belts though

Thanks for the replies!!

Its a bit annoying as the sales garage I bought the car said 100k so I didn't think I would need to spend any money on the car just now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
